My minimalist thoughts are not just mine. Other people are starting to feel like they're surrounded by too much stuff. The June 16th issue of Time has a great article called "The 100 Thing Challenge". It's based around the thoughts of a guy named Dave Bruno, who decided to whittle down his possessions to just 100. I don't know that I could do that, but it's great to at least head in that direction - as much as you can handle doing so.
And here's a smug footnote: I blogged about this 4 days before Jason Kottke did. (Don't you hate my pride?!)

Great idea. Think of all the stuff we would get rid of.
I've been working on this for a year now and I have to say our lives have never been better. I actually get joy from saying goodbye to items :) The heavier and bigger, the better. Most recently it was a big old dresser we stopped using because we wanted to see if we could live without it. Well, we could. I've heard of that 100 Thing Challenge. I'm not sure I could do it though. Brushing your teeth takes two things, and it adds up from there. But it's a great idea.
